Scala Technology specialises in audio signal processing research, design and consultancy. We have developed audio compression algorithms that achieve fast, efficient, error-resilient coding with fine-grain bitrate scalability, with applications in internet audio streaming, mobile multimedia communication, and audio archiving.

Scala is owned by Chris Dunn, who holds a PhD in signal processing and has fifteen years experience of developing a wide range of audio technologies.

Scala was formed in 2000 with the award of development funding from the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and is based in London. Further support has been received from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).
